Oh boyee!! Can you believe it?? it's almost Valentines Day then My Anniversary.. WoW! where did the time go.
I wanted to share with you alittle something that I wrote to introduce my daughter tonight at a Church function..her YW New Beginnings...Hope you like it.
The day I found out, I was going to be a Mother—I was shocked. What was the Lord thinking when he allowed you to come to your Dad and Me. How could this be?
After telling your grandparents and talking to my Bishop, I realized that if it was time for me to settle down and grow up; you would be the one to do that. My life changed—no more rigorous Hula practice. I had to slow down and I had to begin the role of mother.
I knew what I would name you; Cheyenne. I thought I knew you before I met you, but you knew me first. The scriptures say that children choose their parents; I believe you knew what family you already wanted.
Prior to you joining us, the Dr. found that your head was bigger than normal. You were pre classified as mentally ill, but every day from day 1 I received a blessing. That day, the blessing was different. You were blessed with a prayer that you would be smart, happy, kind, and loving. You would lead your family to stay close to the gospel and you would be the one who would lead by example. Ending asking the Heavenly Father to bring you to me healthy. Papa said after the blessing, “Ahh, she just wants to join us early”. “She wants to be where the action is”.
You were born Aug 17th 1996 and it was a long long process. You were stubborn and you came your own time. Breakfast time…and healthy weighing.. 8lbs. 9oz.
The minute the Dr. placed you on my tummy and I saw your big Hawaiian Eyes, you smiled and you knew your name “HI Cheyenne, it’s me-Mommy”. And you blinked in acknowledgment as to who I was. I gave you the name Kamalani,-because I loved the song. But I found out it meant Child of Heaven. My Kumu Hula said it was fitting. He said I knew she would triumph from the Heavens. At the very last moment Mom added another name, the very last minute—Elizabeth. I wanted to give you that name of my grandmother, who came to America from Canada in 1946 to start her life with her new daughter in tow to be with her husband in New Jersey to start her family.
You learned so much from the gospel through the years and Today, once again this New Beginning of your life; you will lead your sister. You will start your journey with women, priesthood, and girls and boys alike who will be there for you, grow with you, and teach you the gospel in areas that Mom or Dad could never do. So as I introduce you to your home ward, Brier and Mountlake Terrace, I introduce you this day, as Cheyenne Elizabeth Kamalani Mortensen.
The girl who loves breakfast, who likes to be where the action is, and brings joy to all those that will be in your presence.
I am so excited.. even if it don't happen.. This will be posted her in Book...
